The need for limiting the electricity generation from Renewable Energy Sources (RES) arises from the undeniable necessity to ensure the stable and safe operation of the Transmission and/or the Distribution Network. Moreover, according to the Transmission and Distribution Grid Code in force, the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSOC) and/or the Distribution System Operator (DSO) reserve the right to limit (at any time and without restriction) the renewable energy fed into the Transmission or in the Distribution System in order to safeguard the stable and safe operation of the Cyprus Electric System.

The reduction of the RES generation is carried out by the two Operators using specialised tools and algorithms to ensure, to the maximum extent possible, the fair allocation of the curtailment to all RES units connected to the Transmission and/or the Distribution System.

In the image below historical statistical data are given for disconnections of small scale PV systems connected to the Distribution Network including the Type of Control employed, the PV Group disconnected as well as the number of disconnections that have taken place during the last 30 days.

Daily RES curtailment reports carried out by the DSO are given below
